Flying V, the Philippine Gasoline company and not the Guitar brand, is pouring some money into discovering how to convert the coconut waste product known as “sasa” into ethanol.
Flying V is known as the first oil company to introduce biodiesel into the Philippine market. I like where they are going, it increases the biofuel yield from the coconut tree by getting two end products, biodiesel from the coconut oil and a byproduct of bioethanol.

Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary, Angelo Reyes, said that Philippine Oil production will reach roughly 30,000 barrels of oil a day once Galoc Oil Field, off the coast of Palawan, goes online next week (June 16).
(DOE Sec Angelo) Reyes said the oil well is expected to produce anywhere between 17,000 to 20,000 barrels of oil per day. The Galoc production, combined with the current oil production in other wells in the country, will be over 30,000 barrels of oil per day, accounting for about 10 percent of the country’s daily consumption of over 300,000 barrels per day.[source]

Nissan Motor just announced their latest Eco Friendly Engine, the M9R. This will initially be placed on the Nissan X-Trail SUV. According to them it gets 30% more mileage than gasoline-based counterparts while producing similar torque levels as a six cylinder, 3.5 liter gasoline engine. The M9R was jointly developed with Renault.

Councilor Pilar Braga and other members of the Davao City Council are asking for the Mayor, Rodrigo Duterte, to push for an Alternative Energy Vehicle Policy for the City. She pointed to escalating costs of fossil fuels, global warming and the fact that other cities in the Philippines are already pushing their own alternative energy vehicle agendas as the reason for the need of this policy.
She said:
There is too much emission of carbon monoxide that is harming the earth’s climate and affecting life cycle of men, animals and plants, thus there is a need to minimize, if not totally eradicate, pollution coming from fossil fuel.[source]
