Just in time with the signing of the Philippine Renewable Energy Law, Global Green of UK signed through its subsidiary, Green Power Panay Philippines Inc.(GPPPI) an Electricity Supply Agreement (ESA) with Iloilo Electric Cooperative I and II on Dec.16 and Dec. 17.

Asea One Power Corp. (AOPC) announced the construction of some waste energy power plants, totaling P3-billion and 25 MW, by 2011. The seven power plants will be located in the provinces of Iloilo, Capiz, Antique, Aklan and Guimaras. Range of each plants capacity would be between 2.5 to 5 MW.

Global Green Power is eyeing a total of $200 Million worth of renewable energy projects in the Philippines. This is in the form of 5 Biomass powerplants rated to produce a total of 87.5 MW. This is but part of a $1B package that the company is planning to expend in the Philippines emerging renewable energy sector.

The five 17.5 MW biomass power plants will be situated in Panay, Samar, Nueva Ecija and Pangasinan. The projects are located in the Visayan and Luzon islands.

Foreign firm, Global Green Powerr, will start construction of a 15MW Biomass power plant in the province of Iloilo as soon as local leaders give their approval of the project. The proposed plant will use rice straw, corn husks and other agricultural wastes as fuel.

Aside from Iloilo, it also plans to put up similar plants in Capiz and Aklan.

cowsThe Oxford Farming Conference (Jan 3, 2007.) will be the venue for a project to benefit farmers on the threats and opportunities of climate change. It became evident that 7% of greenhouse gases are caused by the farming industry so the organizers hope to address the issue by addressing and educating the farmers.

The project is organized by Forum for the Future (an environment charity), the National Farmers’ Union (NFU), the Applied Research Forum (ARF) and the Country Land and Business Association (CLA). The project is funded by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).
