PNOC president Peter Anthony Abaya said that there are entities interested in purchasing the potential carbon credits that can be generated by the PNOC-Alternative Fuels Corporations Jatropha Plantations. Three of the entities he mentioned were EcoSecurites, Mitsubishi Securities of Japan and the World Bank.

Wary of bogus Carbon Credit Offsetters that have no affect on reducing greenhouse gases, the UK Government has set new guidelines for Carbon Credit Offsetters.

The worry for the government has been that the benefits of many of the projects have proved difficult to verify and may be open to abuse.

The effect of the new “guidelines” is that only four offset providers have been found to have met the new guidelines. This drew a howl of protest from some offsetters.

Environment Minister Ian Pearson called US carrier Ryanair the “irresponsible face of capitalism” for opposing EU moves to tax airline carbon emissions. Ryanair’s stand is that it would undercut the income of low cost airlines such as themselves.

Ryanair also has answered that they have worked to reduce their emissions by 50% per passenger by upgrading their planes engines to that which is less polluting, which to them makes the labelling uncalled for. According to a graph from the department of transport, Airline emissions accounts for a huge chunk of pollution after automobiles. Ryanair’s competitor, Easyjet, was more supportive of the tax.

This is quite a novel idea as it marries the speed and convenience of the web with the newly emerging carbon credit market, put taking it also to a more personal level as they connect with individual consumers and not just entities.

They are pitching it to be the next Google because of the revenues that could be earned trading carbon units, in line with this the company also announced that they have patented their site.

125px-flag_of_norwaysvg.pngPrime Minister Jens Stoltenberg of Norway announced that they are buying carbon credits to cover the air travel of government officials abroad. This is in compliance with the Kyoto Protocol which sets a cap on Carbon Emissions per country. The carbon credits to be purchased for a years worth of travel is estimated at $400,000.
