H&WB Corp announces plans to generate 3000MW of power by 2018H&WB Corp announced that they were planning to build power plants that could supply 3000MW of power to the national grid by 2018. The energy according to them will be sourced from hydropower and underwater current which means that it will be hydro electric based.

The scheduled power build up is 1000 MW by the 1st quarter of 2012 till 2015. Another 500MW by 2017 with the remaining 1500 MW balance by 2018. This however will still be dictated by the power requirements of the country come 2015.

The Department of Energy (DOE) said that they believe that the Philippines can be successfully made into a South East Asia regional renewable energy hub during the term of current president, Benigno Aquino III by developing renewable energy projects. They said that by doing this it will encourage foreign manufacturing firms to invest in the country.

The DOE said that ever since the Renewable Energy Law was passed last 2008 they have signed about 205 renewable energy project contracts. These contracts are worth about P88 billion and are estimated to generate about 4400 MW of renewable energy for the grid. The department also said that they are looking into 382 RE project proposals that have been submitted to them for review and approval.

PetroEnergy's 40MW Maibarara geothermal PetroEnergy Resources Corp. (PERC) announced that it was pushing through with its 40MW Maibarara geothermal project after an ECC was issued by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). Maibarara is located at Calamba, Laguna and Sto. Tomas, Batangas.

PERC is expecting to commission the first 20 MW integrated steamfield and power plant by late 2013. PERC will develop the said geothermal project together with Trans-Asia Oil and Energy Development Corp. and PNOC – Renewables Corp.

EDC Wind Farms gets approvedEnergy Development Corp. (EDC) announced that they recently got the approval of the Dept of Energy for their wind farm projects in the Philippines paving the way for their construction.

These are for wind the farm projects in Camiguin, Dinagat and Surigao in Mindanao as well as Luzon projects in Balaoi-Pagudpud Ilocos Barangay Saoit at llocos Norte as well as another at Taytay, Rizal.

Non Fiscal Incentives of Philippine Renewable Energy ActThe National Renewable Energy Board (NREB), which was tasked by the government to draft the Non-fiscal incentives part of the Philippine Renewable Energy Act of 2008 (Republic Act 9513) announced that they are wrapping up and the said guidelines will be ready for the next administration that will takeover right after the elections. June 30 is the projected date that they will finish drafting the non-fiscal incentives of the RE Law.

At almost the same time last year the implementing rules and regulations for the Philippine Renewable Energy Act had also been passed.

$400 Million into wind energy that is. Alternergy Philippine Holdings Corp. announced that they are looking to invest $400 million midterm into wind based renewable energy projects in the Philippines. The $400 million will equate to about 200 MW worth of Wind Energy Projects.
