Asian Development Bank adds The Asian Development Bank (ADB) announced that it is implementing the “Safeguard Policy Statement” that will help mitigate the environmental damages any of its projects might bring. This move was approved by the ADB board last Monday. The said policy has provisions on biodiversity conservation, community health and safety, and physical cultural resources.

A long long time ago a Philippine sea liner capsized from strong winds and waves brought about by one of the 20 plus typhoons that visit the Philippines yearly.

It turns out that that sea liner had some banned agricultural pesticides in them that the Philippines was also supposed to have banned for agricultural use but turns out that some “huge” agri companies had gotten themselves exempted from that ban. Quite funny considering that not a lot of farmers actually use that pesticide because of it’s toxicity.

It’s been two months already and the sunken M/V Princess of the Stars with the deadly cargo of Endosulfan is still floundering off the coast of Romblon.

Just a reminder in case people have already forgotten because of the high price of gas and the recent attacks by Muslim insurgents that have been hogging the news lately.

One of the worst maritime disaster in the Philippines, the overturning of the Sulpicio Lines M/V Princess of the Stars could take an even much worser turn with the discovery of 10 Metric tons of the pesticide Endosulfan in it’s cargo hold. If the contents were released into the sea it could turn into an eco disaster for the Philippines’ fish and aquatic life.

The ship fell victim to the wrath of Typhoon Frank (international name: Fengshen) when it passed through the country late last week. The ship capsized under the rough sea’s and resulted in a large loss of life.

Guimaras Oil Spill Aftermath
It will be almost two years since the MT Solar (prophetic name?) Oil Tanker sank off the coast of Guimaras Island on August 11, 2006 resulting in the worst oil spill in Philippine history. Down with it went almost 2 Million liters of bunker fuel. 500,000 liters of which spilled out into the sea while the remainder being left in the downed tanker.
