Father of the Philippine Biofuel’s Bill (in Congress), Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri, has filed a bill calling for the phase out of incandescent bulbs by 2010. Great move. Aside from more efficient bulbs, I hope the far reaching effect of this bill will be, that energy efficient bulbs price will go down due to economies of scale.

One of the key forums where the candidates can show their wares is at the Houston Presidential Summit. This will happen on the 13th of November at Houston Texas. Here, Leading Presidential Candidates will meet to discuss their energy policies for their campaign.

In a press statement made by Philippine Energy Minister Rafael Lotilla, he said that the option for the Philippines to dabble in Nuclear Energy as a source of Electricity is still 15 years down the road. As this is the time needed to train experts to study the viability of using Nuclear Power.

The Philippine Department of Energy has just posted on their site the application form for the 2nd Green Energy (Green-E) Awards. Deadline of submission of application form is on Sept 14, 2007. Winners will be announced during the National Energy Week in December 2007.

Its sad that the Philippine Renewable Energy Bill was stalled in Congress owing to a lack of sufficient members to form a quorum. By the opening of the 13th congress we’re hoping, along with the Dept of Energy, that Congress will seek to prioritize the much needed bill. WWF Philippines, who is lobbying for the passing of the bill also mentioned that the Senate showed disinterest in the passing of the Bill at the Senate.
