Oriental Energy's 2.5 Billion Hydro Electric Power PlantOriental Energy & Power Generation Co (OEPGC) president, Caroline Tanchay, said that they are planning to construct a P2.5 Billion hydro electric power plant in Panay Island to address the electricity problem of Aklan province. OEPGC is a subsidiary of publicly listed mining firm Oriental Peninsula Resources Group

70% of the electricity supplied to Panay comes from barges that have diesel power plants in them. Philippine Department of Energy data shows that Panay Island needs 189 MW of power, with its current capacity only producing 127.3 MW. The DOE also estimates that the island would need at least 30 MW of additional power in order to meet the islands future demand.

OEPGC’s planned hydro-electric power project will generate 18 MW and would have first dibs in supplying energy to the grid once constructed.

Hedcor revised hydro power plant design for mutually beneficial use of Tamugan RiverJust recently it was announced that Hedcor, developer of the Tamugan hydro electric power project, had submitted to its main rival, the Davao City Water District (DCWD), a compromise proposal for use of the Tamugan river in order to achieve a “win-win” situation for both parties on the use of the river.

Basically it will mean that Hedcor will only build one hydro electric power plant on the site instead of the planned two and move the plant to a higher elevation. Redesign is expected to be finished in 6 months.
