Windpower firm to setup IT HubThe Vestas Services Philippines Inc. is scheduled to be inaugurated this evening and will eventually hire 200 local employees by 2011 with an initial start this year of 100 hirees. They currently have 25 employees already in their stable.

The site will support Vestas global operations providing backend support for the operation of 11,500 turbines worldwide. Their tasks include surveillance, service desk and programming. Vestas already has similar facilities in Denmark, Singapore and the US.

Toyota Tsusho Corp mulling Biofuel venture with Dole Philippines

Toyota Tsusho’s North American Region Group-Global Project Planning Development said that they were studying the feasibility of going into jatropha planting for biofuels with commercial farmer, Dole Philippines, that will comprise of 50~200 hectare lots in Davao City and General Santos in Mindanao. Dole will handle the agriculture part of the venture.

Ecoenerhiya's 10 MW Biomass plant in QuezonLocal firm Ecoenerhiya announced that they will put up a 10 MW biomass project in Quezon with a price tag of $36 Million (P1.7 Billion) under Unisan Biogen. 70% of the project will be financed through loans while the rest will be from equity. They are currently approaching Banco de Oro to finance their project. Construction is expected to begin by May 2010 and to be completed by June the following year. They have already signed a supply agreement with the Quezon Electric Cooperative for the energy produced by the plant

EDC eyeing Geothermal Projects in KenyaThe Lopez Group’s Energy Development Corp (EDC) announced that they are seeking geothermal projects in the country of Kenya in Africa. They have received an invitation to bid for geothermal projects and are currently studying whether it is a feasible endeavor or not.

One of the main targets of the company for 2010 is to strengthen its presence in the international market which will lead to more income generation. There had been rumors that EDC had bid for a geothermal drilling project in Chile. What EDC however has confirmed was that they were eyeing expansion in South Asia and in the Middle East.

18 Companies receive contracts from DOE for RE ProjectsThe Department of Energy announced that they had awarded to 18 renewable energy companies the service contract to 87 sites that will allow them to develop renewable energy projects within the country. Of the 87 contracts, 22 are conversions of existing service contracts and agreements. Five of which are related to geothermal service contracts while 17 are on hydropower renewable energy contracts.

The total investments for the 87 service contracts are expected to amount to over P90.4 Billion in investments and 3000 MW of energy.

Alternergy Philippine Holdings Corp gets Japanese and Korean InvestorsAlternergy Philippine Holdings Corp announced that they had entered into a joint venture with Eurus Energy Japan Corp. and Korea East West Power Co. (EWP) to develop renewable energy projects in the Philippines. Both companies will invest a total of $100 Million into the company.

EWP is a subsidiary of Korea Electric Power Corp. (Kepco) while Eurus Energy Japan is a subsidiary of Eurus Energy Holdings Corp. of Japan which in itself is owned by Tokyo Electric Power Company, Inc. and Toyota Tsusho Corp.
