SM Green Recyclable BagSM Davao’s Department Store and Grocery will begin using Oxo-Biodegradable Plastics (OBP) shopping bags tomorrow. OBP’s are conventional plastics but with an added proprietary mixture that speeds up the breakdown of the chemical structure of the bag. The resultant products of the breakdown are then easily converted by micro-organisms to their food or into carbon dioxide and water.

An Inconvenient TruthThe Academy Award Winning Documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, will be shown on April 22, 2008 on HBO in the Philippines (it starts at 8PM, but that is depending on what part of Asia you are in). This ties in with the celebration of Earth Day for 2008.

Vatican: the Holy SeeMonsignor Gianfranco Girotti, the head of the Vatican’s Apostolic Penitentiary, announced a new set of acts that are to be considered by Catholics as sinful behaviour. Included in that list was “Pollution”.

These announcements came after a week long conference in the Vatican on the topic of Confession. This was also due to the decision of the Church to modernize the categorization of sins for the current times.

SinagThe Philippine’s first ever World Solar Challenge entry has now hit the 2000 km milestone of the gruelling 3000km race in Australia. Check out their current position [here].

The car, cristened Sinag, is taken from the Filipino word meaning “Ray of Sunlight.” The car was built by Students from my Alma Mater’s Mechanical Engineering Department and Electronics and Communications Engineering Dept, with the help of their professors.
