Call for Zero Waste during the 2010 Philippine ElectionsPhilippine elections is about a year off but both political aspirants, government, religious and other sectors are mobilising for the historical event. One such group, the EcoWaste Coalition, calls for minimal waste and pollution during the campaign period for all candidates. In a small ceremony at COMELEC HQ last Wednesday, “Zero Waste 2010 Elections” was initiated which aims to exhort all election stakeholders to heed the plea for reduced campaign on waste and pollution.

Sandra Seifert (center in picture below), representing Negros Occidental, was crowned Miss Philippines Earth of 2009. Dubbed the pageant with a cause, it was broadcast by ABS-CBN and was held at the The Arena in San Juan.

Miss Philippines Earth wins 2008 Miss Earth Beauty Pageant

Karla Paula Henry, representing Cebu City, ran away with the coveted title of Miss Philippines Earth 2008. It was a tense moment because she and Miss USA East Coast were the only 2 remaining contestants to be called. One would be crowned Miss Philippines Earth while the other would be crowned Miss PAGCOR Philippines.

When Melanie Felix’s name was called as the winner of Miss PAGCOR Philippines, Karla Paula Henry burst into tears with the knowledge that she had won the Title.

The Miss Earth Philippines 2008 Beauty Pageant will be on May 11, 2008 at the Crowne Plaza Galleria Manila in Ortigas. Winner of this contest will represent the Philippines in the Miss Earth Contest. I was surprised that even Filipino communities in France and Germany sent their own representatives to the contest. The contestants were presented to the Media last April 29 at the Intercontinental Hotel.
