Business 2.0’s Chris Taylor lists Thin Film Solar Panels as one of the significant innovations for 2007.

I would have mentioned also: a sudden conscientious effort of tech companies and the US government to lower power consumption of tech devices. Then again, that’s more of like an industry trend/movement than a physical item *snicker*

One of the downsides of implementing solar power systems, is the amount of real estate that will have to be acquired in order to host your array of collectors. The solution by Energy Innovations for Google is to instal the arrays at the parking lots. The great thing about this also, is that there is now a little bit of shade for the employee’s cars. In my previous work, I used to remember jockeying for parking space slots that had tree shade.

Google’s solar power array is targetted to generate about 1.6 Mw of power for the company, which will use about 9000 solar panels.

christmas_tree_01.pngIt’s going to be a “Green” Christmas for the Senate as Greenpeace has lent them a couple of Solar panels to charge up and run the Christmas lights of their Christmas tree.

The thrust however of Greenpeace is to convince the Senate to pass an even more greener renewable energy bill as they feel that the current bill doesn’t have a well defined target for the Philippines in the terms of usage of Alternative Energy. What they are aiming for is at least 10% of the energy requirement of the country be filled by alternative energy resources.

I found this great article via Hack-a-day, which show’s how you can make your own LED solar tracker… this is useful for those who want to optimize their solar panels sun collecting position… if you don’t feel like assembling your own, you can always purchase ready built ones for $35.

Of course this is just the tracker and you will still need the actuator enabled tripod to mount the solar panel on which will make sun chasing possible…

Great shots from Solar Power 2006.

And a nice article to boot from CNET.

Nice to note that the cost/KW is going down with the development of new technologies.
