
The Department of Energy (DOE) announced that they are abandoning the research of Jatropha as a feed in stock for the production of Biodiesel. PNOC-Alternative Fuels Corp. (PNOC-AFC), the Government unit that was tasked to research on the viability of the hardy plant commonly used for fencing off a property in the countrysides has been directed to concentrate instead on developing cassava and sweet sorghum (for bioethanol).

Juan Miguel Zubiri, the father of the Biofuel’s bill of the Philippines announced his resignation amidst controversy of cheating during the 2007 election wherein he was in a neck-and-neck race for the final slot in the Senate with rival Koko Pimintel.
As of now it is still unknown as to what will happen to the slot vacated by Migs Zubiri and the final result of his resignation as it is still being reviewed by the Senate.

Dept of Energy (DOE) Undersecretary, Jay Layug, announced that they are working on an agreement for the transfer of the Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp’s (PSPC) Laguna Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) station to the PNOC-Exploration Corp (PNOC-EC). There are about 40 CNG powered buses in the country today with the the government hoping to have 1000 plying the streets in 3 years. One of the major problems voiced by the bus operators was the lack of CNG to power the buses.

A month after announcing that they had decided on the FeedIn Tariff Rates (FIT) for the Renewable Energy sector, the National Renewable Energy Board announced that they have submitted already for approval the FIT rates. As more light gets shed into the matter with this recent announcement, it turns out that the recommended FIT is actually graded depending on the type of renewable energy investment.
The following are the recommended FIT rates based on the type of renewable energy project: solar power (P17.95/kWH), ocean power (P17.65/kWh), wind power (P10.37/kWh), biomass (P7/kWh) and hydro (P6.15/kWh)

Otto Energy announced that over 6.92 million barrels of oil had been extracted from the Galoc Oil Well as of March of this year from the 10 million barrels of estimated reserves the oil field contains. That is roughly 70% of the estimated extractable oil from the said field.
