According to Former Department of Energy (DOE) secretary and current chairman of World Wide Fund for Nature-Philippines (WWF) Vincent Perez Jr, there are about $850 Million worth of Renewable Energy projects awaiting the passage of the Philippine Renewable Energy bill.
The Projects on Hold are:
- Geothermal - 20 megawatt (MW)-project in Nasulo, Dumaguete; 50MW in South Cotabato; 50MW in the Bicol area; 20MW in Mabini, Batangas; 40MW in Compostela Valley; and 40MW-project in Biliran.
- Wind - 80MW and 40MW projects in Ilocos Norte.
- Solar - 10MW solar energy project in Mindanao, worth $50 million.

Here’s an interesting development on the Aboitiz’s Tamugan-Suawan Hydro Project. The DENR’s Environmental Management Bureau has put on hold the ECC permit of the project due to the current tiff between Aboitiz subsidiary Hedcor and the Davao City Water District.

I was reading in the news about a company that was offering a rain water catchment and processing facility for would be buyers. This just got me thinking, is our air so polluted that we can’t even drink God given water from the clouds anymore?
My Dad worked in the island of Mindanao in the early 50’s. He was a teenager then and he contracted and suffered a severe bout of amoebiasis. Mindanao at that time was a forest, not really much development. So electricity and potable water wasn’t available yet at that time.

According to the Asian Development Bank’s latest Asia Economic Monitor, the days of cheap food are numbered as increased demand, supply problems and the upsurge of the biofuel industry will forever keep the price of food at current levels.
While also here in the Philippines there is a more heated debate on Population Control being waged between the Catholic Church and the Government. The Catholic Church only endorses Natural Family Planning Method and Artificial means are treated as a sin.
